Heel PainThe most common cause of heel pain is called Plantar Fascitis, which is sometimes referred to as a heel spur. The Plantar fasciitis is the tissue band that runs along the surface of the foot, from the heel to the toe. If this becomes inflamed there can be a great deal of discomfort including a dull ache along with sharp shooting pains along the heel. This can be caused by a sudden increase in physical activity, been overweight, wearing the wrong type of shoe, no arch support or standing too long. If there is pain behind the heel, the achilles tendon that inserts into the bone maybe inflamed. This is caused by wearing shoes that cut or rub into the back of the heel. A bump may develop and the area can become very tender, leaving the heel warm to touch.   Treatment & Prevention   By visiting a registered chiropodist they can advise you on both conditions. Arch supports, longitudinal metatarsal pads and night splints are commonly used for plantar fascitis, where as 1/2 heel inserts are advised for pain behind the heel.     Modular Orthotics Longitudinal Arch Supports These are used for planter fascitis, tendonitis, shin splints, heel pain and neuroma.
