Ensuring the safety and longevity of instruments is essential. Recently, a comprehensive material compatibility test was conducted using Bossklein IDactiv...
The findings demonstrated that Bossklein IDactiv is highly compatible with a broad spectrum of commonly used dental instrument materials, delivering effective cleaning and disinfection while maintaining the structural integrity of the instruments.
What was the aim of the test
The purpose of the study was to confirm that routine use of Bossklein IDactiv does not damage or compromise dental instruments manufactured from materials typically found in dental practices. This ensures dental professionals can confidently and consistently decontaminate their delicate, high-value instruments without concern for potential deterioration.

| What was tested To ensure a comprehensive evaluation, a wide range of dental instruments made from various materials were included in the testing process. All instruments used in the study were sourced from leading, reputable manufacturers, providing end users with well-known and trusted brands and models. | |

A 3 litre soaking bath (or instrument tank) was used, this is common to find in any size dental clinic.
The highest recommended concentration of IDactiv solution (4% or 40ml per litre) was used.
Full 60 minute contact time was observed for each decontamination “cycle” as per the IDactiv Instructions for use.
Instruments underwent repeated cleaning and disinfection cycles with Bossklein IDactiv over a 9-day period, giving each one a total
exposure time of at least 34 hours. This created a truly comprehensive “stress test” for every instrument.
Visual inspections were performed to identify any signs of corrosion, staining, discoloration, or material fatigue.
The full report (available below) includes high-resolution images of each instrument taken before and after testing, allowing for direct
comparison and assessment of any potential effects.
Conclusions
Following thorough analysis, no signs of incompatibility were observed in any of the instruments after testing.
No corrosion or pitting was found on metal surfaces
Plastic and polymer components showed no warping, cracking, or degradation
Instrument markings remained clear and legible
Mechanical integrity and functionality were fully preserved
Bossklein IDactiv demonstrated excellent compatibility with a wide range of dental materials, even under demanding, repeated-use conditions.
This confirms its suitability for daily use in dental practices where safe, effective, and material-friendly cleaning and disinfection are essential.
All instruments included in the study were shown to be fully compatible with IDactiv.
Bossklein would be confident in officially approving IDactiv Instrument Disinfectant and Cleaner safe for use with the following different materials.
- 455 Stainless steel
- Polyether ether ketone
- Ceramic coated stainless steel
- Teflon
- Diamond-like carbon
- Titanium
- Gold plating
- Titanium nitride
- Polyamide PA6.6
- Tungsten carbide
Why does this matter
Removing debris from used instruments prior to sterilisation is essential to preventing the spread of infection. If debris remains, it can block the sterilisation process from effectively reaching the instrument surface. Although debris removal might seem straightforward, it requires careful consideration of both the integrity of the instrument and the safety of the user.
Selecting the right cleaner and disinfectant involves more than just cleaning performance and antimicrobial effectiveness. Material compatibility plays a crucial role in maintaining the longevity and safety of valuable dental instruments. With Bossklein IDactiv, dental practices can rely on a solution that delivers powerful cleaning and antimicrobial action while remaining gentle on instruments and safe for users.
