What is Clinisept+ Podiatry Skin Cleanser?

No other product combines similar levels of skin hygiene with complete skin and tissue compatibility.

The next generation hypochlorous solution

Clinisept+ Podiatry skin cleanser is a next generation hypochlorous solution that delivers incredibly high levels of cleansing with demonstrated activity against a range of organisms responsible for common foot infections. Hypochlorous acid is actually a weak acid but has rapid bactericidal, viricidal, fungicidal and sporicidal properties. Because of its oxidising rather than toxic method of action, Clinisept+ Podiatry is many times more powerful than traditional skin cleansing chemistries, which means it can be used at lower concentrations. In addition, its oxidising method of action is far more gentle on the skin than traditional chemistries and leaves no toxic residue which can inhibit cell regeneration.

In addition to professional use in clinic, Clinisept+ Podiatry is safe and easy to use at home. It can be used either following a procedure to aid recovery or as part of a daily foot hygiene regime. Clinisept+ Podiatry can be especially helpful where patient foot health would simply benefit from better cleanliness and microbial control. It is suitable for use by those prone to athlete's foot, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Also suitable for use by diabetics.

How is Clinisept+ better than Chlorhexidine?
Currently podiatrists treat patients with Chlorhexidine Gluconate Spray as a skin preparation which has known antibacterial properties. Chlorhexidine Gluconate is most effective against gram positive organisms, but has a reduced effect on gram-negative bacteria and fungi and isn’t particularly sporicidal. Allergies have been reported in some patients as well as stinging and irritation issues. Hypochlorous acid has shown to have minimal toxicity and irritancy. Clinisept+ is water based, not alcohol based and leaves no sticky residue on the skin as it just degrades to water as it dries making it environmentally friendly too.

Povidone-Iodine has a broader spectrum of activity than chlorhexidine against a range of organisms, but leaves a brown stain when applied to the skin and may cause stinging and irritant dermatitis in some patients when used topically.

Clinisept+ can be used as a replacement for your usual skin disinfectants which are used pre- and post-op on patients undergoing treatment. Plus it can also be used as a wound cleanser. There is a lot of literature around hypochlorous solution and how it can be effective against biofilms in chronic wounds (1). Have a read of Prof David Armstrong’s piece (2) on its use in diabetic foot ulceration.

Clinisept can also be used:

  • After nail surgery
  • Fungal foot infections
  • Bacterial skin infections
  • Pain and itch relief
